Santorini – city of gods

If anybody was in Santorini, he will know what I will be writing about. It isn’t only a city, or the island on the Aegean Sea. Perhaps at first it is looking like a few different, similar islands. However it is a peak of the huge volcano, plunged in the briny. All the time it is possible to smell sulphur in the vicinity of the crater. Every now and then it is possible to sense of shivering of the island. The last actual volcanic eruption came in 1500 BC. At the same time it is describing himself that it was the greatest eruption in the history of world. In the end the island was torn to pieces.

Despite everything up till today it is possible to admire remains of the ancient housing estate. Some houses kept their first floors and their walls are decorated with wonderful paintings. As a result of a volcanic eruption the part of the island fell in and ‘caldera’ came into existence, that is huge precipice about the crescent shape.

Before Santorini was determined with name Strongyle, that is round, on account of the shape of the island. Next the first inhabitants determined it as Kalliste, that is most beautiful. And indeed so is. There is no second of such a place on the world.

This island first of all enrapture white buildings with the contrast relating to volcanic hillsides as well as black of sand on beaches. Santorini is included Cyklad and is one of best known local islands. Some claim that the landscape is there quite raw, however nothing is able to replace of local panorama, particularly at sunset. Beaches are formed by lava and the deep, simply remarkable blue of the sea gives additional impressions. This island enrapture practically in every aspect. Who didn’t still visit it should plan it like most quickly. Best to get there in June or July.
